Calling myself into the office: November 2024
The aim of this series, published at the start of each month, aims at personal improvement through the public sharing of goals and targets.

Looking back
My targets for last month were:
- Land at least one new client ✅
- Get in touch with a builder about plans for converting part of our garage into my home office ✅
- Decide on the MSc module I’m going to take in April after a planned six-month break ❌
- Book a holiday for February half-term to somewhere sunny ❌
- Go to some kind of in-person event that isn’t sport-related ✅
I wouldn’t say last month was a strong performance on any of these fronts, to be honest. We landed a small new client, true, and we’ve got someone who can start soon on converting part of our garage into a home office.
However, I haven’t even thought about my MSc since handing in my last assessment, I haven’t booked a holiday, and the non sport-related event was a family wedding!
Looking forward
I’m not going to bother thinking about my MSc until after Christmas, and I’m going to roll over a couple of these targets while being a bit more specific:
- Book a family holiday for February half-term to somewhere sunny
- Go to a non-sport/family/work related event
- Pay a deposit to get work started on my home office
- Re-read 100 pages of Montaigne’s Essays
- Come up with three useful GPTs based on my own work
I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to having three weeks off in December/January.
