Weeknote 16/2025

It’s Easter weekend, so I’ve spend plenty of time with friends and family. On Good Friday, I went for a walk with my son, Ben, up Hen Hole in College Valley.
As you can see from the photograph accompanying this post, we practised creating long(er) exposure photos on our smartphones. I’m pleased to say that I managed the walk no problem; it seems that my heart condition is pretty under control with my current medication.
Yesterday, Aaron Hirtenstein brought his family over to our house, marking exactly a year since we moved in here. His kids are much younger than our two teenagers, so it was a lively few hours!
And then today, Easter Sunday, we’ve been over to my parents for lunch and I am fuller than I’ve been for quite a while…
During this shorter working week I’ve been continuing with the BBC AI Literacy project, interviewing a bunch of people and doing some research. In addition, I’ve been taking my role as research lead for the Amnesty International UK community project seriously be putting together a pretty comprehensive user research and platform testing plan.
We’ve been reviewing our technical infrastructure as part of this month’s WAO co-op day, with the aim to consolidate the various platforms we’re using and websites we’ve got. I spent some time putting together a plan which we’ll discuss next week.
I wrote my usual 10 blog posts at Thought Shrapnel, exploring technology and culture through a philosophical lens:
- Nobody should have to pay to be safe while using a computer
- End times fascism is a darkly festive fatalism
- I’m 100% positive people are going to talk to their cars
- You don’t have to agree with this idea to see that it represents a very different way of thinking about equality
- Sprint goals suck too
- This extension is the solution to becoming more European oriented
- I just think that people who write about technology should have a disclaimer about the tech stack they use
- Obvious things are obvious if you think about them
- You don’t fit in. And that is amazing.
- These parts would end up in a landfill otherwise
Next week also contains a public holiday in the UK, so it will be another shorter working week. I’ll be sorting out the garage tomorrow, and then back to work on Tuesday.
